The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is a unique body in the European Union that fosters innovation across Europe, integrating business, education and research to find solutions to global challenges. The Institute is part of the European Union’s Horizon Research and Innovation Framework Program. The EIT supports long-term partnerships, pan-European Innovation Communities (KICs), which mainly involve research and higher education institutions and enterprises, as well as other stakeholders. Different KICs are looking for solutions to a specific problem, such as climate change, sustainable energy, scarcity of raw materials, healthy lifestyles and food, and more. KICs support the emergence of new businesses, the development of new products and services, the development of a new generation of entrepreneurs – the entrepreneurship of students through the creation of innovative curricula and other activities. In 2022, there will be eight sectoral KICs. RIS HUBs of sectoral KICs operate in Estonia, the aim of which is, among other things, to improve the representation of Estonian organizations in KICs.
